Harry Deegan

Horse Breeding

Inducted: 1970

An outstanding athlete during his high school and college days, the one-time track and football star earned immortality with his leadership of the Washington State Horse Breeders Association. A strong advocate of thoroughbred racing in the state.

Ben Cheney

Inducted: 2004

Legendary supporter of youth and adult athletics. His sponsorship of numerous sports teams in the State enabled thousands of individuals to participate in their favorite sport. Baseball was his passion. He was instrumental in bringing back the Pacific Coast League to Tacoma in 1960. Cheney Stadium is named in recognition of his efforts. His other baseball connections include part ownership of the San Francisco Giants of the National League and sponsorship of the famous Cheney Studs semi-pro national champions.

Joe Gottstein

Horse Racing

Inducted: 1977

Football captain at Brown University...Real estate genius...Race track builder. Founder of Longacres, he is the one individual most responsible for the growth of racing and thoroughbred breeding in the state of Washington.

Stan Naccarato

Inducted: 2004

Considered the master of sports promotion, he established a brilliant career in the athletic field. A promising pro prospect as a pitcher in the Cincinnati Reds farm system, an arm injury ended his playing days. However, he later excelled as the General Manager of the Tacoma Pacific Coast League team, winning several national honors over two decades of service. His many other athletic accomplishments include his long-time tenure as a State Boxing Commissioner.

Torchy Torrance

Baseball

Inducted: 1989

Long identified as one of the prime movers in the development of both pro and amateur athletics in the state.
